Vegan Lip Balm

Many people today are steering away from the use of animal products in their lip balms, and also prefer something suiting the vegan population as well. This recipe should please everyone.

Before you attempt to make this lip balm, frustration can be avoided by having some calendula infused olive oil on hand. This can be made by putting dried calendula flowers in a glass jar and covering the contents with olive oil of your choice. Leave this to sit for a few days in a warm place such as a window sill. If you are in a desperate hurry for the oil place the same ingredients in a saucepan and place on very low heat for a couple of hours. The idea here is to gently warm the oil to get the goodness out of the calendula. Too much heat will succeed in frying them, rendering it useless.

Ingredients:

120gm Calendula infused olive oil
25gm castor oil
20gm Candelilla wax
20gm cocoa butter
10gm jojoba oil
Flavourings as desired.

Steps:

Melt over low heat until all ingredients have melted. Allow to cool slightly

Flavour if required.

Pour into tubes or pots and allow to set before sealing.
