Heirloom Body Care Basic Foundation Recipe

This is a basic foundation recipe intended for home use.  Quantities are kept small to allow you to play and master colour creation without feeling compelled to make up vats of product at a time.

Mineral Foundation is made up of two components - the base, and the colour, each of which are made separately and then combined down the track.  It is important to stay tidy, organised, and completely on top of what you are doing.
Making your own foundation is easiest if you purchase a cheap coffee grinder, but if you dont have one a mortar and pestle will do.

What you will need:
You will need a grinding device previously mentioned
A number of small, medium and large scoops available from Heirloom Body Care
Plenty of zip lock bags and marking pens
Dust mask
Protective gloves
Base and colour ingredients
Makeup pots for your finished creation.

Don your gloves and mask and you are ready to go.

Into your grinding device place:
I medium scoop kaolin clay
1 medium scoop rice powder
1 large scoop serecite
2 small scoops silica microspheres
2 medium scoops oil dispersible  titanium dioxide (oily skin use water dispersible)
2 medium scoops zinc oxide.
All ingredients are available from Heirloom Body Care

Blend for several minutes by hand or several short bursts of the grinder.  Ensure that the product is well mixed in incorporating materials on the sides well.  Remove product and place in a zip lock bag marked "foundation base".  Wipe out your grinder with a dry cloth to remove any excess base.

The time has come to start work on the colour component.  Please note that larger quantities of colour are used to make consistency easier to maintain.  This quantity should satisfy many times the quantity of foundation base.  Keep in mind that everyones skin colour is different, and some people fill scoops to different levels so the following quantities are designed to be a guideline only.  Please adjust to the correct colour as you see fit.  This colour base is intended to suit a caucasian skin tone.  Please adjust according tto your needs.  Make plenty of notes as you go to enable you to reproduce it later.

Into the grinder place

1 large scoop yellow oxide
2.5 medium scoops red oxide
2 small scoops chromium green oxide
1 small scoop blue ultramarine
1 medium scoop brown oxide.
All colours are available at Heirloom Body Care

This colour base will make enough for many many pots of foundation, so take your time to get the colour perfect.  If the base is too yellow add more red, and vice versa.  When your colour base is correct remove it from the grinder and place in another well labelled zip lock bag.  Be very specific with your labels as Aunt Jane's colour will look much like Sophie's after a few are lined up.
Wipe out your grinder but cleaning is not necessary.

To the grinder add 1 large scoop foundation base and 1 medium scoop colour base and blend well.  Any small modifications to the colour can be done now.  Make sure it is perfect, then place in the makeup container of your choice.  Place the sifter carefully and push down firmly.  Once the sticker is removed it is ready for use.
